Back to back finals

Hi both,

Aspatria Hornets made it into the Top 4 Final after seeing off the challenge of a plucky Wath Brow 13s team.

The game, played in glorious, if slippery, conditions at Beacon Hill school was a keenly contested affair but Aspatria did enough to claim the win. Deprived of some key men, the Hornets strength in depth was important as Brow came determined to cause an upset. Coach Wilson shuffled his team selection with Edward Barker starting in the centre and Phillip Bickley claiming the right-wing slot.

The first half was end to end stuff but the bigger Aspatria side managed to build a cushion going into the half time break after tries from Woodcock (2), Beverley, and Paisley. Woodcock added 2 conversions.

The second half followed a similar pattern with Brow working manfully but Aspatria converting their chances into points. Woodcock was on prolific form and added 2 more tries along with scores from Diesel Little and Anthony Hamilton. Woodcock added another 2 conversions to come away with a very healthy personal haul.

The game was played in an excellent spirit, and both sides should be commended on this. Wath Brow 13s deserve the plaudits this season as they have troubled most teams despite being ‘bottom-enders’. This will surely stand them in good stead for the 2027 season.

Woodcock was deservedly named a Man of the Match by the Wath Brow coaching staff but there were a number of notable performances in the Aspatria ranks. Skipper Ash Harrison put in a captain’s knock in the front row and Riley Oliphant returned to the side after injury.

Aspatria will play Wath Brow 14s in the Top 4 Final next Sunday. More details to follow.
